A father took his sons to an amusement park one day. He told them to meet him at the entrance at 5.00 later that day. When the kids finally showed up at the end of the day, it was 5.30. The father said that he was angry and wouldnt take them again for a whole month. One of the boys said, "Wait, it wasn't our fault! We were on the roller coaster, but as we went down the first hill the engine blew out!" After thinking for a while, he grounded the boys. How did he know they were lying?

He was also on that coaster and knew that the engine didnt blow out...
or
he was the person who was incharge of running the roller coaster...

On a roller coaster, the cars are in free fall when they are going down hill and not run by a motor.

Kadjer was pretty much right but to better explain. Once a rollar coaster is brought up the first hill it no longer uses any motor throughout the rest of the ride. The initial drop down the first hill gives it enough momentum to get it up the next hill. The next hill just adds more momentum getting it up the hill that follows, etcetera

I think that since they're father told them to meet at the entrance..The kids might not have money to get the entrance ticket so that it is impossible for them to take any amusement ride if they don't have the gate pass...

The father might have tested the boys separately with a question about the incident. Based the how they answer he could have know that they are lying

the roller coaster going downhill accelerates due to gravity and not the engine.

i guess they were just underaged , too small .. and way too early, they´d have seen their mum at work .. or maybe it was just an am-pm matter...

If the roller coaster was going downhill, the engine wouldn't hve to work hard. gravity brings it down. Therefore, the engine wouldn't burn out going downhill.

if the roller coaster burned how would his children survives .they would die or may get hurts .but his father did not notice any damage to his children .by this way his father knew they are lying

roller coaster while coming down will use the potential energy due to the height achieved, so the engine will hardly have any role to play in this.

Maybe it is cause the boys weren't at a certain height to get on a rollercoaster

Roller coaster only uses engine on the first climb. Once it starts it will get through the entire ride from the initial momentum, even if the engine "blew out".
