Lateral Thinking - Preconceptions
A School Murder

Sun Jan 19, 2014 12:54 am  by dave08

Peter saw his classmate James dead in a restroom holding a gun. The investigator said that it was a murder and not a suicide. The investigator saw James holding a note in his right hand. The investigator said that he has 3 suspects: James` twin, James` girlfriend and a transferee. Who was it?
NOTE: All in this school are intelligent.

The murderer is Peter. It is impossible to shoot someone in a school without someone noticing the echo that's getting louder and louder. Especially in the restroom. Not to mention the time it took to wipe the gun, put it in his hand and get lost. So the shooter is the one that "finds" the cadaver.

Peter is the twin and the transferee and the murderer.

It would be pretty taboo but it could be all three. James could be dating his twin sister who just transferred to that school. But that's highly unlikely.

James' twin sister and girlfriend don't have access to men's restroom
So the murderer must be the transferee 8)

the transferee. James was left-handed.

IT was Peter, because he was holding a gun when he saw James

Assuming those 3 suspects were not one person,
Since all are intelligent, I have 2 suspects..

first: the twin..
why? : because the twin knows James very well.. normally you wouldn't know if a person is left handed or not.

second: the girlfriend
why? : since girls cannot enter the restroom, then that would be the best cover for the crime.

I think it’s the transferee because if he had shot himself, then the note would have fallen out of his limp hand. Since everybody in the school is intelligent, the transferee would be the only one dumb enough to put the note in his hand and make people realize it’s not a suicide.

dave08, what is the answer?

Its very simple question.
Since the gun was left behind, it would have finger-prints. To make it look-like a suicide, only his twin would have done it.

It was probably James' left-handed twin since James was right-handed and could not have written the note (it's in his right hand) and shot himself in the head (gun in his left hand). Boom.
